King Henry VIII was born in 1491, the second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. Henry was the first monarch to be styled Defender of the Faith in 1521 and the first to be King of Ireland in 1541. King Henry is renowned for his dissolution of monastaries and his six marriages which resulted in divorce, beheading, dying, annulled, beheading and surviving for his wives.

The Half-groat coin was struck in silver from the mint in Canterbury. Henry VIII reduced the number of mints in England but coins of his reign still come from Bristol, Canterbury, York and Durham, as well as the Great Mint in the Tower of London.

This coin has been cast in lead-free pewter and antique finished.
