These coins sold for $1 each at the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago during 1893.
The exposition was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. Many of the coins went unsold and were placed in circulation at face value!
The obverse shows a bust of Columbus while the reverse features Columbus' flag ship the Santa Maria with two hemispheres below.
